Capillary action paintings

More little tiny paintings close up.
I'm looking at what watercolour paint does at a microscopic level because I think it has things to tell me about what water does with stuff at a microscopic level and therefore I can find out a little bit more about what's going on in and around me.
That's all very well, I hear you say, but when is Kelly going to do something about her cellulite? Or Paris Hilton?
I'm afraid I can't answer that, I don't know either Kelly or Paris Hilton, though I do know Wolverhampton Travelodge.
I put the picture of the cat sitting on the painting to give a sense of scale, but I dont know how much that helps, as you have no idea how truly gigantic the cat is.

It's as exciting as watching paint dry

Yup, it's a real-time video of paint drying.

"Dim the lights! Order a pizza! Crack open a tinny and settle down to watch this breathless romp through the world of brownian motion!" (Hannibal Snodgrass, Particle Monthly)

hack-o-scope

Thanks to Andy Gracie for sharing his Hackteria knowledge of how to make a video microscope out of a PS3 camera at the Laboratory Life project in Brighton.

Here's mine, I took up his suggestion of using Little Lego Men.

Little Lego Me's, what's more, complete with painting dungarees and true-to-life physiognamies.

Also here the first stills from the hack-0-scope, showing a Daphnia in a variety of different lights.
